Truckminder protects ‘The Fresh Olive Company’ from Catalytic Converter Theft
Truckminder has now been fitted on the vehicles of ‘The Fresh Olive Company’ ensuring that the fleet has the Thatcham accredited TM1 system armed and protecting them from further Catalytic Converter theft.
The Fresh Olive Company leases their vehicles from American based global fleet leasing and fleet management company ‘Ryder’, and has been successfully targeted numerous times by thieves. Truckminder’s unique patented technology detects any attempt of theft on the CAT sounding the alarm and sending SMS to selected GSM phones. This gives the fleet the highest level of CAT protection currently available.
The Fresh Olive Company are not alone in suffering from CAT theft. In November 2013 the BBC reported CAT (catalytic converter) theft doubling over the last few years highlighting what is a growing and worsening trend of this kind of theft. With the price of precious metals increasing, and the ease in which thieves can steal them, CATs are an easy payday. Potentially the biggest targets will be any business with a fleet of vehicles as this provides a better opportunity to steal more CATs in one go. No business wants the additional cost, downtime, damage to reputation and loss of business from having to replace a stolen CAT. The problem is only magnified the larger the fleet.
The AA produced good guidelines on how best to reduce the risk of CAT theft with suggestions as;
- Garage your vehicle whenever possible
- Park in well-lit busy areas
- Look out for people working under cars
- If the car’s high risk consider marking the metal shell of the converter with a unique mark, so that if it is removed by thieves it will be easier to trace back to your vehicle
- If you operate a small fleet, consider obstructing access to vehicles with high ground clearance by parking lower vehicles close by

However those points may not be enough for many businesses and they want and need the highest level of protection to ensure their business keeps moving. This was the case for The Fresh Olive Company and Truckminder is delighted to now be protecting their fleet from any further catalytic converter theft.
